Atmospheric Tank

Apex , Well Testing has developed its own set of fabrication specifications to ensure that equipment used by Apex Petroleum Services, Well Testing meets or exceeds all local requirements. Apex Petroleum Services, Well Testing specifications are primarily based on the following worldwide recognised specifications:

Equipment Design and Fabrication Specifications

  • API Spec 6A – Specification for Valves and Wellhead Equipment
  • ASME VIII For construction of pressure vessels , Div 1&2
  • API RP 14C – Recommended Practice for Analysis, Design, Installation, and Testing of Basic Surface Safety Systems on Offshore Production Platforms
  • NACE MR-01-75
  • Product Specification Level (PSL) 3
  • Material Class DD
  • Temperature Class P&X (-20° F to +350° F)

Atmospheric Tank

The atmospheric tank is used to store produced liquids before disposal. Atmospheric tanks are manufactured for various volumes and are available as single or twin compartments. They are manufactured with the necessary inlet and outlet piping, a safety relief system, and a detonation arrestor.

Where required, the tanks have the necessary skid mounts for vertical or horizontal storage.

The atmospheric tank can be used to measure low flow rates or to calibrate flow meters prior to flowing the well.

Safety Features

  • Flame arrestors on both vents of the gauge tank
  • A thief hatch (safety seams) in case the vessel is accidentally overpressurized

Atmospheric tanks are not to be used when H2S is present, as venting to the atmosphere in the vicinity of the vessel can occur.

Applications

  • Onshore and offshore well testing
  • Measure large volume of liquid at atmospheric pressure
  • Measure low liquid flow rate

Features and Benefits

  • Liquid level indication
  • Thief hatch to prevent overpressuring of the vessel
  • Detonation arrestor to prevent flashback of any ignited gases from the vent line
  • Can be third-party certified in accordance with requirements
