Burner Head

Apex , Well Testing has developed its own set of fabrication specifications to ensure that equipment used by Apex Petroleum Services, Well Testing meets or exceeds all local requirements. Apex Petroleum Services, Well Testing specifications are primarily based on the following worldwide recognised specifications:

Equipment Design and Fabrication Specifications

  • API Spec 6A – Specification for Valves and Wellhead Equipment
  • ASME VIII For construction of pressure vessels , Div 1&2
  • API RP 14C – Recommended Practice for Analysis, Design, Installation, and Testing of Basic Surface Safety Systems on Offshore Production Platforms
  • NACE MR-01-75
  • Product Specification Level (PSL) 3
  • Material Class DD
  • Temperature Class P&X (-20° F to +350° F)

Burner Head

The Apex’s FlareMax Burner is designed for maximum clean burn capability with minimal fall-out. The oil path through the burner is via a 2″ mixing chamber which also allows the passage of solids without causing blockages and subsequent performance problems. The propellant (air) enters the mixing chamber through a series of ports drilled tangentially across the inner mandrel, thus creating both linear and rotational shearing effects which help improve atomisation immediately upon exit of the chamber. This produces a more effective flame pattern, which aids the combustion of the crude oil and reduces background radiated heat.

The design of the FlareMax Burner also reduces operating pressures, which results in significant safety advantages by lowering the overall well test system operating pressure.

The design incorporates actuated ball valves that provide a positive shutoff before and after burn periods. These valves are positioned at the burner heads and prevent spills caused by liquids in the rig lines ‘slopping’ over with the motion of the rig. The control panel enables complete or partial burner isolation to be selected.

Applications

  • Onshore and offshore oil and gas well testing and clean-up operations.

Features and Benefits

  • No Moving Parts – Reduce maintenance during operations.
  • A rupture disc type safety head is located in the short joint immediately upstream of the burner to protect the system in the event of oil nozzle plug-off and overpressure.
  • Low operating pressures – Maximises the operating parameters of a well test/clean-up package.
  • Complete crude oil disposal through combustion – Eliminates the requirement for storage tanks.
  • Unique burner head design – Minimises smoke and fallout pollution.
  • Highly efficient, environmentally friendly – Third-party rated at 99.9% efficient.
  • An efficient pilot system with remote igniters provides the ignition source for the finely atomized spray.
